Switzerland’s capital city
Bern has been Switzerland’s capital city since 1848. The 180m2 Bundesplatz federal square, home to the impressive Parliament Building, lies right at the heart of the city. While the Swiss parliament does indeed convene under the building's mighty dome, it also serves as a venue for the colourful weekly market as well as a host of concerts, state receptions and sporting events. The Bundesterrasse and adjoining Kleine Schanze park can be found behind the square. This hidden gem is an important piece of Swiss history and definitely worth a visit.
