Sustainability is a priority for Sorell Hotels. Hence the collaboration with Swisstainable, a service provider for sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism in Switzerland.

As a central element of the sustainability strategy, Swisstainable has defined a programme that is open to all Swiss tourism establishments, whether they have already achieved sustainability certification or are just starting out on this path. A grid of criteria has been developed to inventory the offers and award them a label on three levels.
The Sorell Hotels Switzerland belong to level II - committed - which is committed to sustainable business management.

My Clymate
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. Every day we are confronted with the global warming of the last decades. Environmental reports show that most of it is due to greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans. The effects of this are unfortunately becoming more and more threatening.
For Sorell Hotels, sustainability is an essential issue and it is important to us to integrate economic, ecological and social measures into our everyday life. Moreover, since 2020, Sorell Hotels have a cooperation with myclimate, support a climate project abroad and is part of the «Cause We Care» climate protection initiative.
Products
Meat
All our meat and meat products come from reliable suppliers in Switzerland who have proven their worth over many years.
Fish & Crustaceans
Sorell Hotels only purchase their fish and crustaceans from sustainable fishing sources in accordance with the WWF Advisor.
Fresh eggs and egg products
It is not just only our 3-minute eggs or scrambled eggs at the breakfast table that come from a happy hen, so does every dish in the Sorell Hotels that contains eggs. All our eggs come from certified Swiss free-range farms.
Coffee
Sorell Hotels rely on Fairtrade for their coffee. Fair trade helps small farmers to develop and supports workers in Asia, Africa and Latin America giving them the chance to improve their living conditions through their own efforts. Democratic structures, more direct trade relations, responsible cultivation and social working conditions are important factors. The growers receive a stable minimum price for their raw materials, as well as a Fairtrade premium for running their own projects. In this way, for example, investments are being made in infrastructure, education, medical care, as well as in quality and productivity.
Fruit and vegetables
For really ripe fruit and crunchy, fresh vegetables, there is only one set of rules you can go by: buy local and in season. Sorell Hotels have been doing just this for its guests… for many years.
Staff
Protecting and maintaining the environment and its natural resources has been a real longstanding concern for Sorell Hotels. All new members of staff are carefully instructed and trained at regular intervals. Business partners and guests are regularly briefed on the efforts and successes of "Sorell Eco".
Waste
To simply not pollute the environment would be the best solution. But since this is not possible as we know, it is necessary to reduce this unavoidable pollution to a minimum: Produce as little waste as possible and dispose of all waste in an environmentally-friendly way or recycle it. That is why in Sorell Hotels, for example, green electricity and district heating is produced in the most modern biogas plant in Switzerland using food and kitchen waste. Biodiesel is produced from the hotel’s waste cooking oil.
ISO 14001 ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION
The integrated management system at Sorell Hotels has been certified in accordance with the environmental management standard ISO 14001. All the points listed in the ISO 14001 standard are in use and cover the entire value creation chain of the Genossenschaft ZFV companies. In the Sorell Hotel Group, this includes services in the fields of hospitality, restaurants and catering, as well as the management and support processes. As part of this environmental management, environmental targets are set annually for every hotel and for the whole group, and we review whether they have been achieved. This ensures continuous improvement when it comes to environmental topics. Qualified environmental contact people ensure that all employees are trained and made aware of environmentally friendly ways of working.
Cooperation myclimate
myclimate «Cause We Care» is an initiative for climate protection and sustainability in Swiss tourism. It engages companies, associations and private individuals in actively working together for climate protection.
When booking a hotel room, you can make a voluntary small contribution to «Cause We Care» whose impact is immediately doubled: We commit to offsetting all unavoidable CO2 emissions from your stay with myclimate climate protection projects. You profit from a climate-neutral service and simultaneously promote sustainable development, job creation, nature conservation in places where this is particularly needed. 50% of your compensation will be used to support the project «Back to the Green Island with Efficient and Solar Stoves» in Madagascar. Climate-friendly cooking and reforestation of the forest will reduce CO₂ emissions.
At the same time, we invest the same amount again in local sustainability programmes, thereby reducing our own CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
